We are a family-run social enterprise hotel located in Lake Atitlán, in the town of San Lucas Tolimán, also called "The Hidden Gem of Lake Atitlán", as it is one of the few towns around the lake that has not been spoiled by overtourism. This also means the night life is pretty quiet and you won't find many choices of bars & restaurants. However, if you're looking to delve into a slower rhythm of life and get to know life in a traditional Maya Kakchiquel community, you've found the right place!
YOU CAN JUST TAKE IT EASY...
You can choose to REGENERATE and stay within our premises. We have VAST GARDENS where you can lay in a HAMMOCK and take in the breathtaking VIEWS, sunbathe or take a dip in the pool. You can also book our HOT TUB and a relaxing MASSAGE. Our restaurant serves delicious local and international food, made with fresh produce from our organic garden. At night, you can request a BONFIRE to relax under the stars and an ancient amate tree.
OR EXPLORE, LEARN AND BE ADVENTUROUS...
This is also a great spot to ENJOY THE NATURAL BEAUTY of Lake Atitlán and DELVE INTO OUR RICH MAYA CULTURAL HERITAGE. We have two (dormant!) volcanoes next door and several HIKING options - you'll get magnificent views whether you choose to walk uphill 30 min or 8 hours! We have the best BIRDWATCHING options around the lake (including seeing the Quetzal Feb-April) and can organize various activities, including traditional WEAVING or FISHING lessons, coffee tours, enjoy our FREE KAYAKS, take a free tour of our ORGANIC FOOD AND MEDICINAL GARDEN, visits to the Rilaj Maam (Maximón) Cofradía or a TEMAZCAL (traditional sweatlodge) to learn about Mayan spirituality, as well as BOAT RIDES to other spots around the lake for tours of Mayan weaving, ceramics and plant medicine shops, among other activities.

Hotel Tolimán is a social enterprise that supports community development and environmental conservation initiatives.
We support an indigenous women's shelter that provides legal and psychological support to survivors of domestic violence, a cooperative of coffee producers, a youth mural art collective, an indigenous women's weavers' cooperative, a marimba school that teaches kids how to play this marvelous traditional instrument, and countless other social initiatives in town.
Our staff receive fair wages, health insurance, a pension plan and other benefits. They are a wonderful team that make Hotel Tolimán what it is, and the main reason behind our guests' great reviews!
Our organic permaculture garden provides fresh produce for the restaurant and the community, while protecting the unique and fragile lake ecosystem from chemical run-off. We run on solar energy and do our best to reduce electric, water, plastic and other waste.

It's super easy to get here - choose your route!
Take a shuttle to Panajachel from Antigua ($15), Guatemala City airport, Guatemala City hotels or most touristy places in Guatemala. Make your reservation with Atitrans shuttles: +502 7832 3371. From Panajachel, take a public boat ($3) directly to San Lucas Tolimán. NOTE: most days, they run approx every half hour until 5:30pm, but the earlier you get to the dock the better 🙂 From the dock, you'll see the hotel and just have to walk. a block to the front desk.
If you have a car, we're the most accessible town on the lake! And we have free parking. Look for "Hotel y Restaurante Tolimán" on Google Maps or Waze and select your route. Both routes have roads in excellent shape (for Guatemalan standards). CA-1 is more windy and scenic (and in the afternoons there may be fog), and CA-9 is a bit longer but less windy, no fog and has a significant portion with 2 lanes each way.
Contact us if you would like to book a private taxi or shuttle (from Antigua or Guatemala City, the cost is approx $100 for 3-4 people and $200 for 5-12 people).
